Last week was rough. Early mornings, potty-training failure, three- year-old banshee screams, husband working late, blah blah blah... and all of it augmented by missing my mother. Just a rough week- the kind when you eat two batches of rice pudding by yourself in four days. You know what I mean.

Well, Bobby came to my rescue in a big way on Thursday. He was on call Wednesday night and up all night working at the hospital after working all day Wednesday and gave up hours of much needed and deserved sleep so that Sophie and I could spend the day in Columbia. It was just what I needed and I was so grateful. We went out to lunch together, went to Target and the mall (where I was sure to stop at Panera and pick up shortbread cookies and sourdough bread), Sam's Club, and Hobby Lobby. I stopped in there to find some supplies for a Thanksgiving centerpiece and I was shocked and overwhelmed by its size. It is HUGE. Like, picture a Robert's and multiply it by 2 or 3, depending on which one you're at. I never wanted to go in there before on account of their name being so lame, but it is a treat to visit! The aisles are not marked, though, and it's impossible to find anything without the help of an employee. Luckily the store wasn't busy and it was easy to find some guidance.

Before we headed back, I stopped at Red Lobster to pick up Bobby's favorite restaurant dinner as a thank you. Before we moved here we went there for his birthday dinner every year as a tradition. He doesn't care for seafood but he LOVES their cajun chicken pasta. I'm going to have to agree with him- it is very good. My man was happy.

  1. I'm sorry your week was rough, but glad you were able to get away and do some shopping. That always helps me. You and Sophie look great. I'm also scared of how big Hobby Lobby is.

  2. Oh, I'm so sorry that things are rough for you right now. I hate those feelings-- and funnily enough I too polished off two big batches of rice pudding last week. Great comfort food. Katherine-- things will get better. They will hurt less. I love the days that I can think about my dad without crying-- just laughing and feeling happy. I'm glad you got to go to Columbia and hit all the old faves. Hope this week is better. But if not-- I'll make you more rice pudding any day! :)

  3. Above everything...Bobby is still a woman trapped in a womanish male figure.

I do miss having biscuits with you guys in P-Town........

Let Bobby know that as soon as we chill again, I'm going to kick his butt at both ice hockey and Tecmo Bowl.

  4. Katherine I just found this blog that is totally committed to a gluten free diet and they had a lot of links off their blogs to other that were similar. Just thought it could help. Take care.

  5. I hate those days. I have been known to eat a dozen or so sugar cookies on those days. Seriously.

My mom always raves about hobby lobby. They just opened one up in West Jordan so I will have to check it out.

  7. Nothing but, a good bath sometimes can help or a trip to Hobby Lobby and Target. We just got one in UT and I know you get kind of overwhelmed at first when you walk in. Can't wait to see this beauitful Thanksgiving Day center piece:)

  8. Sorry your week was tough. I just have to say that Jonathan has always teased me because my favorite restaurant is Red Lobster and I always get chicken! I'm glad someone (who's cool) also does that!

  9. So funny! That is the EXACT same reason why I shyed away from Hobby Lobby for so long - the corny name. Fortunately I warmed up to it after some convinving, because I loved it!

    Hope all is well!

  10. I am so glad that you have discovered the joys of Hobby Lobby!! I completely love that store. It is always a place I stop when I see one. The one in Columbia is really good.Oh yeah- lucky you to get Red Lobster. One of my absolute favorites but it has been years since we ate there. It is sort of a special place for us because Tommy proposed to me there!!! I think that may have been the last time we were there :)

It's great for the family life, I mean I can hardly call it medical school, hehe:) (probably not what you wanted to hear, but I am serious, come to Utah) Regardless, it sounds like you had fun on your little day in Columbia! I love your new colors on the blog:) And can I just say again I LOVE YOUR BLOG. Keep it comin'!

  12. If this hows up twice sorry. I posted and it came up with an error and my comment is gone.. strange.

I said I think Bobby is crazy. Lobster is the thing to get at red lobster not chicken!

I am glad you had a fun day!

  13. Oh and I am impressed with Sophie! I am to the point where I dread taking Grant places with me. He hates the car seat. He is into everything everywhere we go. Now Alyssa is the easy one to take place, really easy, Grant.. not so much.

  14. Isn't it funny how a day out with one child seems so easy. Why didn't we think it was this easy when we only had one child. All about perspective. I pray for your potty-training success. Nothing is more frustrating or more work- I think it took Kea about 3 months.
Rice pudding as comfort food??- I've never liked it, but you almost have me convinced to try it.

  16. Seriously, what a super lame name. Who dreamed it up? That being said.. they have some pretty cool stuff. I'm so glad Bobby hooked you up with a get-out-of-jail free card this week. Sounds like you needed it. I got to go to KC WITHOUT THE GIRLS for a little shopping while I was dropping off and picking up family at the airport. Worth it. No matter how ghetto KC is.
