pregnant.

Pregnancy is a very weird thing. How can you ravenously devour a handful of licorice and guzzle one can of diet coke every day for years and then all of the sudden, after the stick stares back at you with a plus sign, not be able to stand the sight of either? It's troubling.

And if anyone's keeping track, I also can't stand the sight of tomatoes. So odd.

So there you have it! I'm pregnant. In my current state, I feel tired, sick, and unmotivated, so it's hard to gush about how excited I am. But I am so happy. Hopefully that explains where I've been all this time. I wish I could skip all the nausea, heart burn, swelling, and weight gain (especially the weight gain) and just have that baby in my arms.

Did I mention we think it's a boy? We've already told Franny and she tells everyone, "I'm going to have a baby brother and he's this big!" At which point she holds up her thumb and forefinger about an inch apart. I'm happy she's so excited.

P.S.: I've had a lot of phone calls, emails, and messages all from friends checking in and making sure I'm okay. I'm so touched by your concern and yes, I'm great! Just weathering the storms of early pregnancy, but I'm sure they'll be over soon. :)

Ooh, and chocolate has lost it's appeal. What the WHAT?!

  1. Congratulations! I hope Franny is right because I think everyone should get to experience having one of each sex. It's so different and fun. Hang in there, I completely understand and have empathy for every word you mentioned about the joys of pregnancy:) I find myself relying on peanut butter during pregnancy. There is a recipe for peanut butter balls that I think would be a easy summer pregnancy snack. And my kids love them.
    Peanut Butter Balls
    1 cup graham cracker crumbs
    1 cup powdered milk
    1 cup peanut butter
    honey to taste and consistency
Mix everything together, add enough honey until they are as sweet as you want, and the dough holds together. Roll them into balls and freeze.
I got this from Kadie's cooking blog. barefootandbaking

  7. YEAH! What great news. You can look at it on a bright side, at least you were really skinny before getting pregnant so no one is going to wonder if your pregnant or just getting a little chubbier!!
I hope you start feeling like your old self soon.

  8. First off Congratulations!!

Secondly, I'm sorry you can't enjoy wonderful things like chocolate and tomatoes. It'll pass. I ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches everyday for lunch for a month when I was pregnant with Jacob. It was the only thing I could stand. That and dry ramen noodles. I'm sorry if this comment makes you sick.

  10. congrats again. unfortunately, all those weight gaining cravings come back the last few months--at least for me. I secretly enjoy the beginning because of the food aversions to the foods that I so love in hopes that is slows down my weight gain. One of the first signs that I am pregnant--chocolate just loses its appeal. Anyway...hope you start feeling better soon. It's hard when you have to get up early to take kids to school too. I struggled with that SO much my first few months. My kids would have to come wake me up and drag me out of bed to get them to school on time, barely. Sad when the new school year started and they asked me "what time do you want us to get you mom?".

  13. Congratulations! I was honestly wondering about you last night. I'd turned over the page on my calendar, noticed you have a birthday this month (Happy Birthday Early bye the way), and started wondering again why you haven't blogged and if everything was okay. I'm glad to hear it's happy news that's keeping you away. Hope you feel better soon.

Grandpa is home now and doing a little better every day. I am SO glad to have him home again. He is very happy for you too. Hope this awful sickness is short lived. We love you, Bobby and the girls very much.

  28. Thanks everyone! I'm overwhelmed by all your nice comments. Haylee, I'm really excited to try your peanut butter balls. They remind me of the peanut butter candy my best friend's mom used to make for us when we were little.

I'm almost 10 weeks pregnant and due April 3.

Getting up to take Franny to school is so hard! You guys are right. Ashley, your comment made me laugh. I have had my hair or makeup done once since I started taking franny to school, so you must not be looking at me very closely, which is fine by me!! :)

Congratulations, Melissa! I hadn't heard. That is wonderful news!!

  34. YEAH!!!! I was actually wondering if you were pregnant and feeling yucky, which would've explained your "silence" on the blog. Well, CONGRATULATIONS!!! Can't wait to find out what you're having. I wish I were there to take your girls so you could rest or bring your family dinner b/c I'm sure you're not in the mood to cook.
