Car dancers of the world, unite and take a bow

Do you ever feel like there is one song for a Monday morning to get you going, and sometimes you're lucky enough to have your local radio station pick it out for you and play it? Well, today as I was driving Franny to school, getting ready to make a left onto Illinois from Baltimore and wiping the sleepers from my eyes, I heard that very special Monday morning energy song. Today that song was "Everybody Dance Now" by C & C Music Factory. I always wonder what my kids are thinking when they watch me start dancing in the driver's seat, using the steering wheel as my own personal drum set and singing my heart out. They are probably thinking, "my mom is a freak!"

I'm curious if anyone else out there is a car dancer? I'm seriously asking. Show yourselves. I always try to get my kids to join me. It's been a slow process, but they're coming around. Sophie will sometimes try to copy my moves and I see Franny bobbing her head fairly often. I am hoping that someday one of my friends will tell me, "I saw you driving in the car and totally rocking out!" I don't think that will ever happen though because I always keep an eye on the road (good thing, right?) and as soon as I see a car that looks familiar I stop what I'm doing, put on my mom face, and calmly smile and wave as I pass my fellow mini-van. I should be true to myself.

EVERYBODY DANCE NOW!

Since I know you are dying to hear that song now I'm including a little playlist featuring that song along with some others from my youth. Enjoy!

I'm so happy right now.

  1. Right now my Monday morning songs are "Just Dance" by Lady Gaga and "In n Out" By Katy Perry. We dance to them often! If we r going for oldies I love Manic Monday by the Bangles and ....well I cant think of any others because all that keeps coming to mind are my first two! I LOVE them!

  2. I too have embarrassed my children by dancing in the car. When they were small they joined in, caution as they get bigger....not so much! Enjoy! I still do it today but tend to be by myself, which looks even funnier to the onlookers!

  3. I confess! I too am a car dancer!

I don't think I have any specific songs though. It depends on my mood and what song catches my fancy.

  6. I'm a closet car dancer... only when I'm driving by myself. It helped me stay awake many a time during a long commute from Torrance to Corona.

  7. You are hilarious! I totally love imagining you rocking out in the morning in the car, and trying to get the kids to join in. Ben and I sing at the top of our lungs. Actually, I sing at the top of my lungs and sometimes he joins me. :) Fun!!

  8. I am a huge car dancer, kitchen dancer anywhere dancer! But just the other day I was (thought I was) having fun with the kidlets "busting a move" and my 9 year old says to me: MOM STOP people can SEE YOU!
It's a really sad day when all the sudden your kids are embarrassed by you...
Thankfully - his embarrassment does not stop me!

  9. My favorite car-dancing-move is to lean back, grab the steering wheel in a somewhat gangsta style and pretend that I am really steering it back and forth, left and right to the beat, while singing loudly, shaking my head in the most rock-star way possible and oh yeah, remembering to pay attention to the road...

  10. oh, you brought me back...Did we really dance to that at school dances? I also claim the car dancer, although pathetically. My best move is the head bob. Tragic, I know.
