My time in the clink

I realized I sort of closed up shop on the embarrassing moment stuff, but I reserve the right to report such moments as they occur going forward.

Do you remember me telling you about my speeding ticket less than a month ago? Well, with my sister's wedding, a trip to visit family in Pittsburg, and a four-day autism conference, I had not even thought that the deadline for paying my ticket might even be approaching. Apparently I had a court date Thursday of last week and Friday night while I was at the conference, Bobby and the girls received a knock on the door. It was a police officer and he said that he had a warrant out for Mommy's arrest. WHAT THE CRAP?!

Bobby told him I wasn't there but we would take care of it first thing on Monday. Monday morning we drove together to the police department. I walk up to the receptionist, fully expecting to pay the ticket and have that be it. Oh, Katherine, you're so naive... She calls someone from the back and the sergeant comes out telling me I need to come with him to take care of it and that I'll be there for 20 minutes at least. I told him I didn't think I could wait that long and could I come back later? He kind of laughed at that and asked, "When are you going to come back?" I wondered why he was laughing and then later I realized what I was really doing in that police department. I was turning myself in!

What ensued after that can definitely be considered for my embarrassing moment portfolio. The sergeant was very kind and talkative as he took my fingerprints and took my money so I could post my bond. (Is that the right phrasing?) He asked why I was in such a hurry, and I told him my friend was coming over to help me figure out my sewing machine. I guessed that he didn't hear that very often when he was taking fingerprints. Then when he said he needed to take my picture, I could not stifle my laughter.

"You mean like, mug shots?"
He laughed and said, "Yeah, basically."
Me: "So I've just been arrested?"
Him: "Yes."
Me: "So I have a record now?"
Him: "You sure do."

Awesome.

Today I called the B.F.E.P.D. and asked if I could get a copy of the mug shot. The man who answered was totally rude. He was like, "no we don't do that." I asked if there was any other way I could go about getting a copy. Then he asked what I was afraid he would ask, "well what do you need it for?" Embarrassed, I answered: "I want to post it on my blog." Him: "No we don't do that."

Okay fine. So I just took my own. I thought I needed a visual.

How funny! I actually got a ticket tonight and I am STEAMING MAD - the thought crossed my mind that I should just shred it and forget it - maybe not such a good idea?

Oh Katherine. You crack me up. When you called me and told me about that I seriously laughed for to myself for the next 30 minutes. Reading this even I was laughing hysterically... so much that Jason was giving me weird looks. I'll surely make sure to promptly pay any speeding tickets I may get.

Ok, so news companies can get a hold of all the celebrities' mug shots after they get arrested, but they won't give you a copy of your own? What's the story with that?

Funny story, Katharine. I am so paying all my tickets on time now!

That is so freakin' funny! I love how you were so nonchalant about the whole thing. I love how we go to these great lengths in the name of a good post on our blogs.
I have a record, too. For throwing water balloons at cars.

FOR REAL? that is really too funny! that almost happened to me right before I had Jackson. I hadnt gotten our Colorado plates yet on the car and the CA ones had expired and I was driving to work and a cop pulled me over and said that I needed to get this taken care of. and the date that i had to go show the court that I had taken care of it was my due date... the lady said that if I didnt take care of it that there would be a warrent out for my arrest... SCARY!!

I laughed out loud sitting her by myself. I can just see Bobby sitting in the waiting area, wondering where you are? You handled it way better than I...something I should learn. I can't believe you actually got arrested, fingerprinted, blah, blah, blah. Too funny.

So would you say you got "booked"? That's too funny. But seriously who do they think they are? Don't they know you are THE domestic goddess?

Wow! How did I miss this post?!! Melody was telling me all about this today, and we were busting up imagining you getting mug shots and having a CRIMINAL RECORD!! What in the world?! A sweet lil mommy who just wants to get home in time to figure out your sewing machine! :) Haha! Seriously, that is crazy! Funny that you told him you wanted your mug shots so you could post them on your blog. Hilarious!

You criminal! That is seriously crazy...even for you!

Welcome to my world. Going to jail for 2-3 days was seriously an option for my last speeding ticket. Needless to say, I opted for the 150 hours!! @#$% of community service!

I LOVE this post!

Holy cow, Katherine! I have a friend with a record now. ;) You're not the only one that feels naive about the judicial system - I wouldn't have guessed that you'd be arrested. That is classic about the conversation with the two guys that were waiting by you -- that was totally the case when I had to go to court in Orem when that lady ran me off of the road. I was thinking to myself, 'where do these people come from...this is Utah County!' But, then Ryan and I went to the Utah County Fair at Thanksgiving Point a few years ago. Wow! Some of the people at the fair made the weirdos waiting in the court room look almost normal. :)
